GIANT FOOD STORES ANNOUNCES OPENING DATE AND MANAGER FOR NEW KUTZTOWN STORE

Kutztown, PA – GIANT Food Stores today announced that the doors of its newest Berks County store, located at 15100 Kutztown Road in Kutztown will open on Wednesday, February 27 at 8:00 a.m. The store features GIANT’s latest prototype and new décor package inside and the convenience of an on-site fuel station.

Steve Bowlby has been appointed store manager of the new 50,000 square foot GIANT, which will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The new store will employ approximately 150 full and part time associates when it opens.

“Our entire team is excited to introduce the Kutztown community to GIANT’s unique combination of quality, selection and savings,” said Bowlby. ”We can’t wait to show off our new state-of-the-art store that features modern amenities for a more convenient shopping experience.”

Bowlby is a 12-year veteran with GIANT Food Stores, having most recently served as store manager of the Quakertown GIANT.

One-stop shopping in an innovative store layout When customers walk through the doors of the new store they will take in the vast, perishables hall that includes GIANT’s signature produce, deli, meat, seafood, and bakery departments all complemented by a vibrant décor package.

Kutztown customers will also find a variety of new features and amenities both in-store and out. The store includes an on-site fuel station where customers can shop, pump and save with GIANT’s Gas Extra Rewards program. For every $100 spent on groceries at any GIANT using a Bonuscard, customers will receive ten cents off per gallon of gas when they fill up as part of the Gas Extra Rewards program.

Commitment to Health and Wellness

Emphasizing GIANT’s ongoing commitment to health and wellness, customers will find an assortment of natural and organic products in a dedicated section called Nature’s Promise Marketplace, which includes more than 2,500 frozen, dairy, grocery and special diet selections.

GIANT’s exclusive Healthy IdeasTM product labeling system includes thousands of GIANT’s own brand and national brand perishable and nonperishable products that feature the blue and green Healthy Ideas shelf tags that help customers identify healthy options as they shop the aisles. Foods labeled with the Healthy Ideas symbol include single ingredient fruits, vegetables and 100% fruit juice, some canned, frozen and dried fruits, certain breads and meats, cereals, rice and pasta, low fat dairy products and some snack foods.

Energy Saving Features

The Kutztown GIANT, which is pursuing LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, has been constructed with innovative building technologies to reduce energy consumption and the environmental impact of operations. LED lighting will be used in many areas of the store, significantly reducing energy needs. Warm concrete floors have replaced the traditional tile, reducing the amount of cleaning solutions normally utilized.
