Health and Wellness

Emphasizing GIANT's ongoing commitment to health and wellness, customers will find an assortment of natural and organic products in a dedicated section called Nature's Promise Marketplace, which includes more than 2,500 frozen, dairy, grocery and special diet selections and features a gluten-free product area for customers on gluten-free diets due to celiac disease or other health concerns.

Your Neighborhood Drugstore at GIANT includes a full-service pharmacy for filling prescriptions along with providing informational materials about healthy living, drugs, disease and diet. The Health and Beauty Care department offers the effect of shopping in a drugstore for all of a customer's health and beauty needs but at prices 10 - 15 percent lower than chain drugstores.

Energy-Saving Construction

The Springfield GIANT has been constructed with innovative building technologies to reduce energy consumption and the environmental impact of operations. Skylights have been installed to reduce electricity consumption during peak daylight hours when some of the store's overhead lights will be cycled off. In addition, LED lighting is used in many areas of the store, including overhead track lights, spotlights on specialty areas & displays, exterior store signs and in the frozen food cases. LED lights are longer-lasting and are expected to reduce wattage by half. In addition, low emissivity glass has been installed on windows, reducing energy loss by as much as 30-50%.

Because native vegetation is utilized in the exterior landscaping, no irrigation is needed resulting in additional water conservation. Waterless urinals are expected to save approximately 100,000 gallons of water/year.

Customer-Friendly Technology

GIANT features state-of-the-art technology that provides added convenience for shoppers. EasyScan allows customers to utilize one of six self-scanning units to expedite the checkout process. EasyWeigh enables customers to weigh their produce, bulk food and other items making checkout quick and easy. GIANT's award-winning Shopping Solutions kiosks, which are conveniently located throughout the store, enable customers to use the interactive touch-screen to check personalized BonusCard savings offers, print off coupons, locate an item in the store, and place a deli or Great Entertaining party tray order. GIANT also makes it convenient for customers to find meal ideas by providing access to more than 2,500 tasty recipes that can be printed from the Shopping Solutions kiosks.

GIANT celebrated the opening of its newest store by providing $6,000 in donations to the following local organizations in a special presentation on August 3 at the store:

* Springfield Fire Company

* Springfield Township Police Department

* Springfield School District

* Catholic Social Services, Senior Drop-In Center

* Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

* Community Arts Center, Children's Programs

"Engagement in our local communities is a strong part of the GIANT culture and we actively support local organizations in addition to efforts focused on fighting hunger and improving the quality of life for children," said Taylor. "We look forward to continuing these traditions in the Springfield community."
