GIANT ANNOUNCES OPENING DATE AND MANAGER FOR NEW SPRINGFIELD, PA STORE

Springfield, PA  GIANT Food Stores today announced that the doors of its new Springfield store, located within the Springfield Shopping Center at 721 W. Sproul Road, will open on Wednesday, August 4 at 8:00 a.m. Barbara Taylor has been appointed store manager of the new 66,000 square foot GIANT, which will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"We are so excited to open our sixth store in Delaware County, and offer our customers the very best combination of quality, product selection and everyday savings" said Barbara Taylor, store manager.

Taylor is a fifteen-year veteran with GIANT Food Stores, having most recently served as store manager of the West Chester GIANT. Taylor lives with her family in Aston, PA.

The Springfield store, Delaware County's sixth GIANT will add approximately 230 full and part-time associates. Currently GIANT employs 750 full and part-time associates at its five Delaware County stores.

Commitment to Health and Wellness

Emphasizing GIANT's ongoing commitment to health and wellness, customers will find an assortment of natural and organic products in a dedicated section called Nature's Promise Marketplace, which includes more than 2,500 frozen, dairy, grocery and special diet selections.

Your Neighborhood Drugstore at GIANT includes a full-service pharmacy for filling prescriptions along with providing informational materials about healthy living, drugs, disease and diet. The Health and Beauty Care department offers the effect of shopping in a drugstore for all of a customer's health and beauty needs but at prices 10 - 15 percent lower than chain drugstores.

Customer-Friendly Technology

While exploring the new features and products at GIANT, customers can find just what they are looking for at one of the award-winning Shopping Solutions kiosks found throughout the store.

By using the interactive touch-screen, customers can check our personalized BonusCard savings offers, locate an item in the store and even place a deli or Great Entertaining party tray order.

Springfield customers can enjoy a cup of their favorite blend from GIANT's full service coffee bar and bring their laptop to the store's free WiFi Cafe complete with comfy chairs and a fireplace.

Energy Saving Features

The new Springfield GIANT has been constructed with innovative building technologies to reduce energy consumption and the environmental impact of operations. Skylights have been installed to reduce electricity consumption during peak daylight hours and LED lighting is used in many areas of the store. LED lights are longer-lasting and are expected to reduce wattage by half.

Economic Heritage

GIANT Food Stores has deep roots in Pennsylvania, founded 87 years ago in Carlisle. Today, GIANT is the third largest private sector employer in The Commonwealth, employing more than 20,000 Pennsylvanians statewide. The Springfield location is GIANT's 3rd store to open in 2010 alone.
